Unternehmen Eiche - Liberation action - Benito Mussolini
Operation Oak was the code name of a German military operation that served to liberate the deposed Italian dictator Benito Mussolini on September 12, 1943, during World War II.
Unternehmen Eiche - Head of the SS paratroopers - Otto Skorzeny
Skorzeny was promoted to SS-Sturmbannführer for the liberation operation and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.

Although Skorzeny was neither involved in the direct planning of this operation nor had any command authority, he was highly praised for the liberation operation. The Nazi propaganda deliberately omitted the fact that the operation was primarily an operation planned and carried out by members of the parachute troops, while the role of Skorzeny and his SS men was greatly exaggerated.

SS-Hauptsturmführer Otto Skorzeny received permission to join the company.
