In 1906 Hermann Schmitz started his first position as a secretary at the metal company (then the largest non-iron metal company in the world) in Frankfurt am Main, where his talents (including his hard negotiation tactics) quickly appeared and helped him to have a steep career. Just four years later, in 1910, he became a deputy board member of the world company. In this position, he secured the metal bank's influence on the business with Spanish lead.
