Hoechst was directly involved in armaments, slave labor and lethal human experimentation. The plant produced, among other things, explosive precursors and medicines for the Wehrmacht. Over 3,000 forced laborers, prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates had to work in the Höchst factories. In addition, the Höchst plant was closely linked to its subsidiary, the Behringwerke: chemicals and preparations for medical human experiments on prisoners in the Buchenwald concentration camp were coordinated from there.
In the Nuremberg I.G. Farben trial, several top managers (such as Carl Lautenschläger) stood trial.
