- Finance and Trade Minister -
Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein
The Prussian finance and commercial minister Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom and Stein wanted to convert Prussia based on the model of the Napoleonic code Civil: farmers' exemption, equality from the law, protection of property and religious freedom. On this basis, the state could win over loyal citizens and tame revolutionary forces, as demonstrated by the French Revolution. When stone proposed to replace the cabinet government consisting of the king of Venet by a ministry, Friedrich Wilhelm III wrote to him. on January 3, 1807:
"That they are [...] to be regarded as a unruly, defiant, persistent and disobedient civil servant, who, in sparkling his genius and talent, far away, is only guided by passion and from personal hatred and bitterness."
Friedrich Wilhelm III. In this letter, Stein accused of only acting out of prejudices. On January 3, 1807, the king forced the baron from the stone to resign and initially disabled the Prussian reforms. It was only after Hardenberg was dismissed in July 1807 by Friedrich Wilhelm III. brought back to the civil service.
