Fritz Bauer

In Frankfurt am Main, an employee of the Frankfurter Rundschau sent original documents to the Hessian Attorney General Fritz Bauer in January 1959 that the journalist received from a Holocaust survivor.

Bauer was found dead in the bathtub of his apartment in Frankfurt on July 1, 1968. The so -called "administrative section" made by the Frankfurt forensic doctor Joachim Gerchow were diagnosed with heart damage, severe acute bronchitis and taking a sleeping pills. There would be no indications of a third -party fault.

In his final report and later statements, Gerchow suspected suicide. Bauer's behavioral behavior, however, lacks before his death. At his request, Bauer was cremated against Jewish tradition.

The instructions of Bauer's representative to apply for a judicial corner of the body disregarded the responsible Frankfurt public prosecutor for this time, for the time being unknown and immediately - even for fire burial - released the body.

Fritz Bauer put together a highly motivated and committed group led by Hanns Großmann prosecutors who were not involved in the Nazi crimes: Georg Friedrich Vogel, Joachim Kügler and Gerhard Wiese.

Düx became judge in 1954. Since he had opposed the establishment of a former Hitler youth leader as the presiding judge in a reparation chamber, he was prosecuted. As a result, he noticed the Hessian Attorney General Fritz Bauer. From 1960 to 1963, Düx at the Frankfurt am Main District Court was involved in political criminal matters with the Auschwitz and euthanasia procedures, which was directed by Bauer.

In 1959 Harlan received the first of a whole series of defamation lawsuits, including from the then FDP member of the Bundestag Ernst Achenbach and Franz Alfred Six.

Harlan had started in Poland, where he had also lived since 1960, with research over the Kulmhof extermination camp, Sobibór, Bełżec and Treblinka. Until 1964, Harlan contributed to the initiation of over 2000 criminal proceedings against war criminal in the Federal Republic. Since 1960 he was supported by the Italian publisher Giangiacomo Feltrinelli.

A friendship developed into the Hessian Attorney General Fritz Bauer.
