From 1935 to 1944, Schultze was head of the National Socialist German lecturer Association (NSDDB), a party structure organized according to the leadership principle, the task of which was the political control and ideological influence of university teachers and thus the control of institutionalized science. In June 1944, Walter Schultze was relieved of his NSDDB office due to abuse of office to the disadvantage of a party comrade in June 1944.

During his inauguration speech for the Reich University of Strasbourg, Schultze declared the "unexploiting" of the "thoughts of our people" on the goal of the university on November 23, 1941.
Due to misconduct to the disadvantage of a party comrade, he was removed by the Nazi party judgment of his office in 1944 and replaced by "imperial student leader" Gustav Adolf Scheel. Scheel was also a doctor.
