William Henry Bragg
In 1913, Bragg and his son Lawrence developed the Bragg spectrometer method based on X-ray diffraction, which was initially used to determine X-ray spectra and then also to determine crystal structures.
The focus was on Bragg's equation, which was drawn up by the researchers and named after them.
In recognition of these achievements, father and son were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1915 “for their contributions to the study of crystal structures using X-ray spectroscopy”.

Arthur Holly Compton
Around 1922, Compton investigated the scattering of monochromatic X-rays from crystals and made the following observation:
The scattered radiation had a lower energy or a longer wavelength than the radiation before scattering. This experimental result suggested that the wavelength of high-energy electromagnetic radiation changes when it is scattered by electrons. Therefore, Compton further concluded, the radiation must have particle character.
For this work, Compton and Wilson shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1927.
