Flix SE
Silver Lake joined FlixBus as a new major investor in December 2016. The fresh capital from the US company, which specializes in technology investments, significantly drove FlixBus's massive international expansion. Through this round of financing, FlixBus became a so-called “unicorn” (a start-up with a market value of over one billion US dollars).
Since FlixBus's business model is based on a highly developed mobility and ticketing platform (while the buses are operated by local partners), Silver Lake brought, in addition to money, expertise in scaling global tech companies.
Silver Lake accompanied Flix SE as one of the main owners from 2016-2024 (at times with around 11% of the shares). At the end of 2024, Silver Lake fully realized its stake in Flix SE through a successful sale (exit).
