RTX BBN Technologies - in 1969 received order for the construction of the Arpanet from - DARPA
On April 7, 1969, Arpa awarded the order for the construction of a network to BBN Technologies. A small network of computers that were brought together as an interface message processor (IMP) and which were connected by gateways (today router) was built. The first data transfer took place on October 29, 1969 between computers at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Stanford Research Institute near San Francisco.

RTX BBN Technologies - developed - Arpanet
The earliest ideas for a computer network (computer network) should enable general communication between several computer users. As early as August 1962, the computer scientists J. C. R. Licklider, Leo Beranek, Richard Bolt and Robert Newman presented such concepts for an "Intergalactic Computer Network". These ideas already contained almost everything that the modern internet is doing today.

RTX BBN Technologies - Worked at / for - J. C. R. Licklider
Licklider left this in 1957 and switched to the acoustic and information technology company Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN). On the PDP-1, a "minicomputer" by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), which was realized on the TX-0 of the first time sharing systems with the TX-0 and made Licklider available to two (only 53 existing) computers for his personal research. Numerous leading computer scientists followed Licklider to BBN.
RTX BBN Technologies - Former co -partner - Müller-BBM
In 1962 the foundation of Müller-BBN GmbH was founded with five shareholders, including Lothar Cremer, Manfred Heckl, Ludwig Schreiber and Helmut A. Müller. The company Bolt, Beranek and Newman (BBN), represented by Leo Beranek, became a co -partner. In 1972 BBN sold its shares to Leo Beranek and to the then employee of Müller-BBN.
