Apex Silver Mines quickly developed into an internationally active mining and development company with a production focus on silver, zinc and lead. During Kaplan's time as chairman and CEO of the company, a silver, zinc and lead mining district was developed in San Cristóbal, Bolivia, one of the largest in the world.
