Heinz Baumkötter - KZ Mauthausen
Heinz Baumkötter (1912–2001) was a German SS Hauptsturmführer and physician. His active career as a camp doctor in the concentration camps began in November 1941 in the Austrian concentration camp Mauthausen.
Although Baumkötter later became notorious as the first camp doctor in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp (where he abused prisoners for tuberculosis and warfare agent experiments), his active participation in the extermination system began in Mauthausen. As a camp doctor, he selected prisoners, refused medical help and monitored the brutal everyday life in the camp, in which thousands of people were beaten to death in the local quarry. After the war, he was sentenced to prison by a Soviet military tribunal in the Sachsenhausen Trial (1947) and later in West Germany (1962). Scandalously, he later worked, among other things, as a research assistant for the Grünenthal company.
Heinz Baumkötter - Concentration camp doctor - KZ Natzweiler-Struthof
Baumkötter represents the medical atrocities that were closely linked to the chemical-pharmaceutical industry in the Nazi state. In the concentration camps he carried out brutal human experiments on prisoners (including tests to test medications and warfare agents). IG Farben maintained close contacts with the concentration camp doctors in order to have clinical tests of pharmaceutical preparations carried out on prisoners without their consent.

Heinz Baumkötter - Designed (life -long) - Sachsenhausen-Prozess
A Soviet military court condemned Baumkötter in the Sachsenhausen process, which lasted from October 23 to November 1, 1947, for lifelong imprisonment with the obligation to work. About a month after the verdict, he was arrested in the Workuta of the Gulag labor camp.

After Adenauer's visit in the Soviet Union, Baumkötter was transferred to the Federal Republic of Germany as a so -called "non -tamed" in 1956.
Heinz Baumkötter - Process (1950s) against - Landgericht Münster
After being transferred from the and tunion to the Federal Republic of Germany, Baumkötter was temporarily arrested by the German authorities in 1956.

Baumkötter was finally carried out before the Münster district court. He was accused of being involved in the execution of around 125 prisoners in Sachsenhausen and, between 1942 and 1945, is said to have selected at least 110 prisoners who were to die in the gas chamber. On June 5, 1959, the provisional prohibition of the medical profession was issued by the government president in Münster and on November 21, 1959 he was released from pre -trial detention.

On February 27, 1962, Baumkötter was found guilty and sentenced to eight years of prison, which, however, were considered served by the detention period in the Soviet Union.

Heinz Baumkötter - led attempts - Menschenversuche in nationalsozialistischen Konzentrationslagern
Baumkötter became known for his pseudo -scientific experiments, which he carried out on prisoners. Due to the increasingly threatening war situation, an attempt should be made to make the crew of German submarines do without sleep for days. Reichsführer SS Himmler had previously given permission to carry out experiments on prisoners. Baumkötter carried out this by injecting drugs, including cocaine and pervit. Afterwards, the subjects had to march for days without sleep on a 700 -meter -long career with half a hundredweight. At the same time, they “tested” on the approximately 40 kilometers for the industry shoe soles (Schücker-Kommando).

Further experiments should affect the cause, infection and healing of jaundice, in which the prisoner was injected.

In addition, prisoners were inflicted by phosphorus 2. And 3rd degree to test the chances of recovery.

Baumkötter was directly responsible for crimes committed to the prisoners. He selected prisoners who were no longer able to work and was present for shootings to confirm the death of the prisoners. He was also a witness to gassing to certify the death of the victims here too. Baumkötter in Sachsenhausen introduced the playing of all marching music for shootings so that the other prisoners could not hear the rifle shots.
