Willi Schatz stood in front of the jury in Frankfurt am Main during the 1st Auschwitz process because of his actions in the camps. He was accused of having selected prisoners in Auschwitz. Since this could not be proven without doubt, it was acquitted on August 20, 1965.
By comparing photos of the Auschwitz album with a photo series of the so-called Höcker album, which was handed over to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum at the end of 2006, Schatz was identified as a selecting doctor on the ramp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
